FSU National Secretary welcomes formation of government and swearing in of Minister
Print  |  Email

Seventeen days after we went to the polls, the make up of the next Government of Australia became known. Since then, the Gillard Government Ministry has been announced, and I congratulate Bill Shorten on being sworn in as the Minister for Financial Services.

I have written to Minister Shorten to congratulate him, give him an overview of the concerns and issues of FSU members, and to offer to meet with him to discuss those concerns and issues in greater detail. Things like concerns about off-shoring of finance jobs and a desire to see a greater investment in Australian jobs and skills, the prevalence of aggressive target setting, debt stress and bullying in our industry, and the finance sector’s gender pay gap of 28%.

I also want to talk to the Minister about the impact of climate change on the insurance industry and the need for more training and more staff, the importance of increasing retirement savings for Australian workers, and greater industrial protection for FSU Reps performing their role in finance sector workplaces.

From your perspective, what other things would you like your union representatives to talk to the new Minister about?
