The Bank claims that to remain competitive there is a need to identify facets of the workflow that could either be automated, reengineered, centralised, outsourced, or off-shored to Bangalore.
At this stage ANZ has not been able to provide any further details as to the exact nature of the changes or the roles that will be relocated overseas as a result of the operational review.
However ANZ Mortgages Managing Director Michael Rowland has stated that a "small" proportion of about 900 back-office mortgage jobs would be sent to Bangalore in India. He also committed that employees affected by the review would be retrained and redeployed.
FSU will work with members and ANZ in an effort to ensure that member's wishes are reflected in the outcomes of the tough decisions the Bank is set to make, and that members input plays a crucial role in determining the Banks next steps.
This is a long and ongoing review and members are encouraged to participate where they can to pressure the bank to make the right decision to protect Australian jobs and invest in training and development opportunities in Australia.
ANZ recently advised FSU of its intention to move to the next phase of the Mortgages' Transformation Program and review 955 back office jobs of the departments 1500 staff.
