Suncorp & AAMI claims in scope for offshoring
Thursday, 25 August 2011
FSU members who work for AAMI/Suncorp in claims have been notified that representatives from Indian company World Network Services will be assessing their roles to determine if the roles are suitable for offshoring. Staff have been advised that their roles are being “scoped” and that they will need to explain to the offshoring company what their role entails. While the number of insurance jobs sent offshore is relatively low compared to the banking sector, should this scoping exercise result in jobs going offshore it would be the first time that claims roles are lost in the insurance industry.
Members have reported to FSU that many staff are feeling demoralized as a result of the scoping exercise and concerned about their job security. Many are questioning Suncorp’s actions and feel as though the company is displaying disregard for the importance of local job security and failing to reward their hard working staff.
The FSU has formally written to Suncorp about this issue and we are awaiting a response from Suncorp management. The FSU has run strong public campaigns in recent years that have prevented offshoring, and the union is continuing to campaign on this issue.
Here are some ways you can get involved, and increase the pressure on Suncorp to keep claims
jobs in Australia.
- Post a comment on the FSU online forum. This is a secure online space where you can comment anonymously, and tell your story about how the scoping exercise is making you and your colleagues feel, and the likely impact on you if your job is earmarked for offshoring;
- Vote in our online poll, and answer the question “Do profitable finance employers have a responsibility to keep jobs in Australia” www.fsunion.org.au
- Stay in touch with your union, and encourage colleagues to join FSU for assistance and solidarity. Let the union know if there are developments at your workplace.
If you have any further information or concerns please call the FSU Member Rights Centre on 1300 366 378.
