Pay equity at NAB
Thursday, 4 August 2011
In 2006/2007, the FSU and NAB conducted a joint pay equity audit within NAB which was the first of its kind in the finance industry. This year, the parties have commenced a follow up project to review the outcomes of the original audit and provide further recommendations for action.
As the union for finance workers, the FSU has led the drive to investigate the causes of gender-based pay inequity. The finance industry has a greater gender pay gap than any other industry in Australia. We applaud NAB’s ongoing commitment to work with us to seek out the causes of pay inequity and to find ways to bridge the pay gap.
The focus of this year’s project is on three key areas that were identified under the previous audit as warranting further investigation because of their contribution to the gender pay gap:
- the impact of parental leave on an employee’s pay and career path and the experience of women on/returning from parental leave;
- pay equity in particular roles in:
(a) Business Bank; and
(b) Financial Planning.
The FSU and NAB will keep you updated about the progress of the joint project and opportunities for you to be involved. In the meantime, FSU members who have questions or comments about the project can email nabstafffeedback@fsunion.org.au
