Valuing Jobs Fairly
Tuesday, 19 July 2011
One of the reasons for the large gender pay gap in finance is that some jobs are undervalued. This is an historic issue and it tends to involve undervaluing of jobs mainly held by women (eg: service jobs).
FSU is the only union to be asked to participate in developing a new Australian Standard aimed at valuing jobs fairly. The Standards Australia (Draft) Standard on Gender Inclusive Job Evaluation sets out processes to ensure that organisations include the breadth of responsibilities required by all jobs, and don’t make assumptions about jobs based on gender.
FSU has written to the industry asking them to contribute comment on the draft Standard during the public comment period -18 July 2011- 12 September 2011.
The Standard is voluntary but once finalised, we will be urging employers to adopt it as one more means of closing the gender pay gap.
