The Chifley/FSU Frontline Management Program

Finance sector staff seeking to enhance their career potential by acquiring practical frontline management skills backed by a nationally recognised qualification may find just what they’re looking for in the Chifley/FSU Frontline Management Program.

What is Frontline Management?

As the name suggests, frontline management is the first level of management. Whilst not always given that title – maybe coordinator, supervisor, or team leader instead – frontline managers perform a crucial management role, coordinating and overseeing the work of other employees.

Practical, Flexible and Online

The Program comprises two courses - the Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management), covering 8 units of competency, and the Diploma of Business (Frontline Management), covering 11 units. There are no academic prerequisites. Those who are unsure as to which course is the appropriate one for them may sample the study and assessment material from both levels before committing themselves to one or the other.

These are very flexible courses and, now being delivered online, are ideal for busy people. With no set term dates, students start when they’re ready, and progress more or less at their own pace. Although it is expected that students will complete the Certificate in 18 months and/or the Diploma in 2 years, if they are in a hurry and capable of completing their course in half that time, there’s nothing to stop them doing so.

They are also very practical courses, competency-based – that is, they require participants to demonstrate their competence in the management skills covered by applying their learning in the workplace. Assessment is by assignment work or workplace-based projects rather than by examination.

Fees are (as at 1/7/2007) as follows:

Certificate IV in Business (8 modules)
FSU members $365 per unit (or $2,920 in total)
Non-members $465 per unit (or $3,720 in total)

Diploma of Business (11 modules)
FSU members $365 per unit (or $4,015 in total)
Non-members $465 per unit (or $5,115 in total)
