St George Hears FSU Member Concerns on Targets

FSU St George National President Susanne Pearce, and FSU Reps Gemma McIntosh, Lorraine Morrell & Deborah Callaghan, met with Regional Executive and Local Area Managers for the Metro West St George Retail Region.

At the meeting FSU Reps outlined the problems faced by members in how their targets were set, the ability for members to meet the targets, and the performance management and counseling being conducted when members fail to meet stretch targets. FSU Reps also outlined how targets were not being adjusted for approved leave even though Westpac have put in place guidelines for doing this.

Bank management responded that:

  • counseling should only occur over failure to meet minimum targets, not stretch targets;
  • targets should be adjusted for approved leave absences;
  • if these things are not taking place then employees should raise that issue with their manager, and if required escalate to regional bank management;
  • in order to reinforce consistency of how targets are assessed and adjusted, managers will be reminded in a meeting with regional management next month.

Management also advised that a number of staff have had their targets adjusted in response to the dispute letter.

FSU Reps indicated that this would be taken to members to see if there are any other issues to follow up, and thanked management for their positive response to the issues raised.
