Sharney Joslin: Our Rep of the Year
Sharney Joslin works for Credit Union Australia and is an FSU Rep.
She is a trooper - just ask her fellow FSU members who nominated her for the Qld FSU Rep of the Year Award. Sharney has worked at CUA since 2007 and has been an FSU Rep since early 2009. She does a tremendous job representing members' views to management and works hard to improve conditions for all CUA staff.
In 2004, Qld Reps developed a Charter that outlined the things an FSU Rep should do to help build our union and to make sure our members are well represented. Sharney does them all.
Her fellow members detailed the ways Sharney keeps members informed, promotes the union, recruits new members, gets members involved in union activities, and ensures that members' rights are respected in the workplace.
Sharney is an active member of the CUA Staff Consultative Committee and is always prepared to speak up on behalf of members. She was an integral part of the union team that negotiated the recent CUA Enterprise Agreement which delivered better pay outcomes and improved conditions. Of particular note is that the new Agreement overturns the old pay system in CUA which only guaranteed a 1% pay increase per year for staff, with any other increase based on performance and market based pay. The new Agreement provides a 12% guaranteed increase over three years, with performance pay available on top of this, delivering a great result on one of the main issues of concern for FSU members.
"It gives us so much more certainty about pay outcomes to get across the board increases. Now, subjective performance hurdles won't dictate whether we can afford to pay the bills and maintain our standard of living," said Sharney.
Thanks to Sharney's work, hundreds of FSU members are better off. As Qld FSU Rep of the Year, she receives a personal trophy, her name added to our perpetual trophy, and three lovely nights away on the coast.
