CBA: From Bankstown to Ballina to Booval - Targets dispute widens

FSU calls on bank to meet delegation

Earlier this week another 55 CBA members, this time from the North Coast region of NSW, delivered letters to their Managers disputing their targets.  Like over 600 of their fellow members they are calling on CBA management to review current targets and performance management systems which members say are not fair and put unreasonable pressure on all staff.

The written response the bank is giving to these members is that the targets will not be reviewed until the end of the performance year, another seven months away, and if staff still have issues then, they should seek a review. This ignores completely the stress and pressure members are working under every day in an effort to try to meet these unrealistic targets.

A seven month wait and a “maybe” from a review is just not good enough. In recent days FSU has received reports that some members have contemplated self harm because of work related stress while others are going home in tears after traumatic days trying to achieve targets. One relatively affluent Sydney area is now reportedly running at only 50% of target but still CBA says that it won’t change.

Cuts Make Life Even Tougher for Frontline Staff

Over recent weeks members around the country have reported significant cuts to hours being proposed by CBA, thanks to the roll out of a new workplace planning tool. Some branches have reported up to a 30% cut to FTE with no reduction in branch targets. Like the 38 regional branches that will work under restricted opening hours, they too will be expected by CBA to achieve the same targets with less customer facing time.

Members call on Senior Management to meet

Members have passed a resolution seeking a meeting with Senior Management prior to Christmas to resolve this issue. A delegation of FSU representatives is ready and equipped with real examples of how these targets are affecting the lives of hard working CBA employees around the country. It is time for CBA to listen to their staff and work with FSU members to resolve these issues.
