FSU Submission to the Senate on the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Bill 2014
Tuesday, 10 June 2014
The Senate Education & Employment Committee is conducting an inquiry on the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Bill 2014.
The Bill seeks to amend the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 to make it easier for more employers to join Comcare and leave the often better regulated state and territory work health and safety jurisdictions. The Bill also seeks to expand the exclusions for workers’ compensation and in particular to remove workers’ compensation for injuries sustained by employees whilst on an off-site recess and to expand the exclusion for serious and wilful misconduct to those employees who die or suffer serious and permanent impairment.
In our submission to the inquiry, the FSU recommends that the Bill be revised or scrapped.
