FSU calls for CBA members to nominate as Safety Reps (HSRs)
Thursday, 14 August 2008
Under the Comcare system, CBA is required to establish Health and Safety Management Arrangements (HSMA's) to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees at work. FSU is the authorized representative for employees concerning the development of HSMA's.
Part of the HSMA process can include the establishment of work groups known as Designated Work Groups (DWG's). Once DWG's are established you can elect Health and Safety Reps (HSR's). Safety Reps will perform a key role in promoting better health and safety at CBA workplaces.
In consultation with your CBA National Enterprise Council (CBA-NEC), FSU has continued to represent your health and safety interests in on-going discussions with CBA and we will be reporting more detail about this shortly. For now, it's important to get your nomination in to FSU and to CBA, as soon as possible.
Key Entitlements for HSR’s under Comcare:
- Employers pay for accredited HSR Training and must take your preference of provider into account
- Employers must allow HSR’s time off to attend training without loss of pay
- Employers must permit HSR’s to take time off work without loss of pay to perform HSR duties. The Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC), the body who oversees the overall regulation of OHS under Comcare, recommends that employers support Deputy HSR’s undertaking accredited training.
