Have you ever had an aggressive customer at work? We need to hear from you.

In light of the revelations before the Royal Commission the Australian public have been expressing their anger at the actions of Bank executives on social media, at social events, and increasingly, at our workplaces.

Aggressive customers are not new, however there has been an increase in the number of incidents reported by FSU members. This is never OK, and finance workers have the right to a safe working environment.
Aggressive behaviour can manifest itself in many ways:

  • Verbal abuse, whether it is face to face or over the phone. This can include profanity or inappropriate comments including racist or sexist remarks;

  • In writing, for example during online chats;

  • Serious verbal abuse where physical harm is threatened;

  • Aggressive or violent behaviour that leads to property damage;

  • Death threats; or

  • Physical assault.

We want to know about your experiences and how your employer has supported you.

Accurate, up-to-date data on these incidents will help drive change.

It is not OK to be abused at work – whether it is verbal or physical abuse.

We need concrete data on incidents of aggression, so we can ensure your employers are responding effectively.

Tell us your story by completing the survey in the link below:

Please note that information collected in this survey will enable a statistical summary, identifying whether your employer responds adequately. We will never provide individual data to employers without your explicit permission. The survey is not anonymous as we may need to contact you for further information.

Help is available right now for those in need.

You should fill out an incident report when subject to aggressive behaviour. This is important so your employer can assist, and so there is a record of the incident.

EAP Service: Remember your employer has an Employee Assistance Program that can provide counselling and support if needed when dealing with these issues.

If you need industrial support please call the FSU’s Member Rights Centre on 1300 366 378.
