Media storm on potential job losses
Monday, 17 November 2008
The FSU is very concerned about the media speculation in the last two months, culminating in a front page story on Friday, about potential job losses at ANZ.
As reported to members previously, the FSU has been meeting with ANZ regularly to be provided with information about the progression of the One ANZ restructure. No detail on the number of jobs likely to be affected has been provided, and although the bank previously committed to providing information to the union by 7th November, nothing was provided by that date.
FSU has publicly and privately called on the bank to end the uncertainty for the ANZ workforce, and confirm which jobs are at risk as a result of this restructure, and which jobs are safe. Once we have this information, the union can commence discussions with the bank about redeployment opportunities for affected staff, and entitlements that may be due.
Once we do have details, the FSU will provide the information to members at ANZ.
In the meantime, if you have any queries about your rights at work, please call the FSU Member Rights Centre on 1300 366 378.
Staffing Audit
FSU organisers around the country are currently conducting a national staffing audit of ANZ retail branches.
The purpose of the audit is to take a snapshot of a large sample of branches, to determine staffing levels, access to relief staff, and access to paid overtime, between now and the end of the year.
Branches will be contacted again in the new year to establish if there has been any change to staffing levels since the original audit was conducted.
The findings will be communicated to members, and to the bank, so that any issues that are uncovered in the process can be addressed.
If you work in an ANZ branch, keep an eye out for FSU organisers. We appreciate any assistance you can provide.
