    Personal Statement

    Steve Howland

Steve Howland is standing for the Health and Safety Rep (HSR) position for Technology’s (DWG)

I have a keen interest in promoting better health and safety at Nab. That’s why I want to be the HSR for Technology.

The health effects of unreasonable workloads, targets and bullying are some of the continuing health and safety risks facing today’s finance workers.

Recently, I participated in reviewing Nab’s OHS and Injury Management records as part of Nab’s application to renew its Comcare licence. As an elected HSR my opportunity to provide greater employee input into improving Nab’s OHS performance is increased.

I am President of FSU’s Nab Local Enterprise Council for Vic/Tas and a member of FSU’s Nab’s National Enterprise Council. In this capacity I am also able to ensure that the health and safety interests of Nab staff are actively supported.

I seek your support to select me as your Elected HSR for Technology to ensure active representation on the health and safety issues that concern you.

    Andrea Newley

Andrea Newley as RFS (QLD) Safety Rep

I joined the Bank in 1984 and am currently in the Sales and Service Adviser role. My whole career with the Nab has been in the one Branch at Stanthorpe.

    I am 40 years old.

My partner Michael and I have one daughter Jessica and our family’s business is Vine to Wine advisory services.

I am aware of the occupational health and safety (OHS) practices of our business and that of our clients as required. Even though it is a different industry to banking, the concept is the same in that we should always be striving for best practices and improvement where required.

If elected as a HSR, I would be encouraging the staff from Retail to become more active about OH & S in their workplace and contribute via constructive and positive feedback how best practice OHS may be achieved in their workplaces.

OH & S involves all of us and we should all share our ideas so we achieve the best possible outcome for our staff.

If elected as your HSR, I will be here to be your voice and take forward the feedback to Nab you give me.

    Rachel Barrett

Rachel Barrett as RFS (QLD) Safety Rep

I joined the Bank in 1994 as a trainee, and moved around with work in the years to follow.

I have taken time off to have my 2 children and now work at the Range branch in Toowoomba as the Branch Manager.

I have worked in over 30 locations throughout Queensland, and have undertaken a lot of relief work during this time.  And one thing has remained constant: the great staff that we have at NAB!

I have nominated to become a Health and Safety Representative for QLD because it would give me a chance to represent all staff in Queensland on health and safety matters in the workplace.

Let's focus on keeping our greatest asset safe – our people. Help give me the opportunity to represent our State in Melbourne!!!

     Lynn Unwin

Lynn Unwin as RFS (QLD) Safety Rep

I've been with the Nab since 1991 and in that time I have worked in the Brisbane CBD and the Gold Coast as a part time teller and on the Gold Coast as an Sales and Service Assistant and Lead Teller. In my present position as Relief Lead Teller I visit many branches both suburban and semi rural and can relieved in various positions from teller, SSA to CSM roles.

The diversity of my relieving position allows me to experience varied work environments and speak to many staff members. This extensive network would be an asset to an OHS rep as I can get a feel for what is important to colleagues regarding OHS and I can see what is and isn't working.

    Blake Hepworth

Blake Hepworth is standing for the Health and Safety Rep (HSR) position for MLC

I work in the distribution mail house area in MLC.

I like a challenge and look forward to being able to make a contribution to improving the OHS work life of my colleagues.

In my role I work on all floors at MLC in North Sydney and I have become very familiar with the work environment in each area. I believe through my observation of the workplaces I visit and through contact with my fellow employees, I will gain more knowledge about the OHS issues that concern staff.

Some of the OHS issues I am aware of include complaints about workloads and their health effects, slips and falls and the need for safe work practices such as correct manual handling and the need to monitor air conditioning to ensure air quality.

If elected your HSR, along with other Reps I am able to receive training in the role of HSR. With FSU’s support I will ensure that I represent the OHS views and concerns of my MLC work colleagues to Nab.

I have been working with NAB for 15 months.

I currently work at NAB Direct Rhodes, on level 3 and am confident about and committed to raising staff’s Occupational Health and Safety concerns in order to ensure genuine consultation occurs. I believe your HSR should be actively involved in the promotion of better health and safety at NAB.

Some ohs matters I am aware of:

    • posture: height of computer/chairs/desk etc. (quite a few of the employees who have been working for a while have had health concerns brought about from bad posture - bad back, shoulder, hip etc.)
    • Breaks: ensuring operators have adequate breaks from viewing the monitor
    • Hygiene: cleanliness around kitchen/desks
    • Stress: brought about from targets, abusive callers, other performance measurements.
