Online Forum - Invest in Australia

In calling on employers in our sector to Invest in Australia, the FSU is seeking:

  • Real Choices for Workers - so you can decide what is best for you and your future
  • Skills Fund - to cover the cost of training, re-training and education
  • No more offshoring – keep finance jobs in Australia
  • Better payments for employees - for finance workers who do lose their jobs to help them get back on their feet and back into work similar to arrangements for manufacturing workers.

What do you think of the plan? Does it go far enough? What should the government do? What’s happening in your workplace?

What most people don’t realise is the high risk the banks are taking now through offshoring their critcial Computer support to India to save money. If a bank can’t operate it is broke and so will the Australian Economy. If there is a dispute with India where services are withheld Australia is impacted.

The Banks should be controlled more heavily through the conditions of an Australian Banking License.

I beleive the FSU should lobby the Rudd Government to alter the conditions for bans to hold a banking license. Part of the condition should be to provide a low risk operating environment which inlcudes support for critcial computer services. The FSU must insist that Australian employed bank and IT staff run and support the IT systems which are relied upon so heavily for the success of the Banks.

I believe many Bank staff are being replaced by offshore resources without consideration of the risk to the Banking public in Australia.

Satyam went broke recently but this still hasn't stopped the mindless migration to offshore IT support. The Banks are just not accountable enough for their actions.

I agree that we need a peoples bank and that we already have one that would fit this model - Members Equity bank.
