Suncorp: Is this Fair and Equitable?
Friday, 6 August 2010
Suncorp have finally outlined their proposal, except pay, for a new Agreement and it’s time for you to have your say.
Suncorp state in their Enterprise Agreement communications that the Group is aiming to introduce ‘fair, consistent and equitable employment terms and conditions’, but feedback to your Bargaining Reps has highlighted concerns that their proposal falls well short in the following key areas:
1. Weekend Penalties:
Suncorp proposes to abolish penalties for working Saturday which would result in a significant reduction in pay for many employees. Proposed weekend day penalties are also well below industry standard.
2. Personal leave:
Suncorp proposes to cut Personal Leave to only 10 days for all employees, with a possible extra 2 days subject to severe restrictions. Currently employees in Promina, Promina FS, Vero and AAI are entitled to personal 12 days in the second year and 14 days p/a from the third year of service. AAMI employees are entitled to 12 days from the second year of service.
3. Job Security:
The proposal includes a cap on retrenchment payments of 80 weeks and there is no definition of a ‘comparable position’ which leaves employees subject to employer discretion in cases of redeployment.
4. Overtime and hours of work:
The proposal lacks detail and transparency about what you could be required to work and how you’re paid for extra hours.
5. Superannuation entitlements:
There is no guarantee that employees on TEC won’t have future SGC increases absorbed into their overall remuneration package resulting in a reduction in take home pay.
Targets and dispute settlement:
The FSU is also greatly concerned by the lack of protection from unreasonable targets and the absence of an independent umpire in settling disputes.
Don’t let Suncorp reduce your entitlements.
FSU and a majority of employee bargaining reps are already hearing concerns over these issues. Make sure Suncorp is listening too.
