Westpac Cuts Referral Target
Friday, 19 August 2011
Westpac FSU member tellers have won an across the board reduction in referral targets after a campaign run in four NSW regions.
Around 200 tellers from across the South Sydney, Illawarra, Newcastle and West Sydney regions submitted letters to management disputing the decision to double the teller referral target from 1 per day to 2 per day.
As a result, senior Westpac management met with a delegation of FSU teller members from those regions. In that meeting the Union delegation explained that the referral target is not fair or reasonable and provided relevant facts which needed to be taken into account when determining this target. The FSU reps spoke of the impact this target had on tellers across the four regions. Westpac listened to their concerns and has now announced major changes to the teller referral target.
The nationwide overhaul, endorsed by FSU member meetings in the four regions that raised this issue, means the teller referral target will now be structured along these lines:
- Teller referral target reduced to 1.5 a day over 48 weeks
- Adjustment of the target to take into account approved absences, training, relief in other roles and BEDs where this has a material impact on performance ratings
- The 1.5 a day referral target will apply for both FY2011 and FY2012
In addition, a small number of remote branches will have targets set at 1 per day. This demonstrates that Westpac acknowledges that local market factors can have an impact on targets and these targets can be adjusted.
This is a major improvement for tellers nationwide and it has occurred because hundreds of Westpac FSU members stuck together.
We congratulate Westpac management for listening and addressing the concerns.
The Dashboard
Westpac has confirm that the MI Dashboard will be adjusted to reflect the new target and this will occur over the coming weeks.
