National Review of OHS Laws - Time for Reps to take action

Message for FSU HSR's

Dear FSU HSR’s,

As you would be aware the current, National Review of OHS Laws has raised serious concerns about the future OHS standards for workers and their Reps.

The new, proposed Laws raise such problems as:

  • Increased risk of victimisation of HSR’s because employers are proposed to have more power to remove HSR’s from their role;
  • Weakened OHS consultation provisions for workers and their Reps;
    Reduced ability for Unions to pursue suspected breaches, (including that a Union must give 24 hours notice to inspect documents);
  • Removing the rights of Unions to undertake prosecutions. FSU has undertaken several, successful prosecutions in the past and this has led to improved workplace safety, including beyond NSW.

That’s why the ACTU has launched a “Don’t Risk 2nd Rate Safety Campaign” to urge all workers to speak up about the Review’s deficiencies. (For more information, you can visit the ACTU’s website at www.rightsatwork.com.au/campaigns).

What can you do?

FSU is asking all our HSR’s to send 2 letters of protest as soon as possible to:

The Hon. Julia Gillard MP
Letter to The Hon. Julia Gillard MP (PDF); and

Your State IR Minister (PDFs)
NSW    VIC    QLD    WA    SA    ACT    NT

To assist, FSU attaches the letters (refer above) you may wish to send and the relevant Facsimile number (identified in the letter) you can send your letters to.

All you need to do is print the letter/s, fill in the date/s and write in your email address of choice you wish the response/s sent to.
