Sign the Petition in support of your OHS Workplace Rights
The ACTU’s OHS Charter of Rights identifies the minimum:
- Health;
- Safety; and
- Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation rights all workers should be entitled to.
The Federal Government is currently undertaking a process with all State Governments to obtain common standards for health and safety laws, known as OHS Harmonisation.
All Unions are calling on the Federal Government to make sure any new laws:
- Deliver the highest workplace health and safety standards – to protect working Australians from death, injury and illness;
- Place the burden of proof on employers when they breach the law - employers have a legal duty to ensure employees’ health and safety at work;
- Give the highest standards of rights, powers and protections to workplace health and safety reps – Remember, it’s the Reps who speak up for you at work and its important they have your support to do this without suffering any victimization as a result;
- Ensure that Unions can represent workers – Union workplaces are safer workplaces;
- Enable a union to prosecute an employer for breaching OHS laws including where death and injury result – working with your Reps, Unions can take positive steps to improve workplace health and safety.
- Implement tougher and more effective penalties to deter employers from causing death, injury or illness.
