Send a message to Suncorp CEO Patrick Snowball: Keep Suncorp Jobs in Australia

Dear Mr Snowball

I am concerned about Suncorp’s plans to send insurance jobs offshore. Suncorp has built a very positive reputation in the last twelve months thanks to Suncorp employees who demonstrated a fantastic commitment to their communities through numerous disasters.

Your Chairman acknowledges the efforts of staff in Suncorp’s annual report: “From the insurance and banking teams, who were on the ground in flood and cyclone affected regions within 24 hours, to the employees who took insurance claims from home when call centres were inaccessible due to rising flood waters, there are countless examples of Suncorp people going far beyond the everyday to help our customers in their time of need”.

Despite the disasters, Suncorp employees helped the company deliver a profit of $453 million in the last financial year.

These workers should not now face the prospect of their jobs going overseas.

It was Australian taxpayers who helped secure the future of Suncorp in 2008 when the taxpayer funded ‘deposit guarantee’ underwrote the banking part of the business and protected Suncorp against a possible takeover attempt. Taxpayers supported Suncorp; now Suncorp should return that support by deciding to keep investing in jobs and skills in Australia.

I ask you not to send Suncorp jobs overseas. Such a move will be damaging to the company, to the finance industry and to the Australian economy.

Yours sincerely
