Westpac Group: Breakthrough in Review of CCC Knowledge Expert Role

On Thursday 4 November the JEC determined that the role was equivalent to a Grade 3 under the new structure (Westpac A3 or St George 46-6).

As a result of the regrading, a large number of Knowledge experts will receive an adjustment to their grade and pay.

Issues around the knowledge expert scorecard, however, are still unresolved.

Westpac propose that any adjustment to knowledge experts pay and grading would be effective from 1 January 2016, even though staff have been carrying out this work for over 18 months.

After months of discussions, FSU representatives Anna Domin (Westpac  Bedford Park, SA) , Katrina Newitt (Westpac Lomond), Scott McDonell (St George Kogarah) and John Vaughan (Westpac Epping),  are pleased a breakthrough has been reached, but believe Westpac needs to do more, including:

  • back dating the increase to align with the time when KE’s commenced the higher value work; and
  • commit to finishing the redesign and consultation process of the Knowledge Expert Scorecard by 18 December 2015.


Next steps

The current Westpac Group Enterprise Agreement is due to expire on 31 December 2015.

Technically, all unresolved disputes under the old agreement expire on the same day. This means in order to resolve the back pay issue using the dispute settlement procedure in the current agreement, all knowledge experts must sign up to pursuing the issue now.

If you believe that your new pay grade should start when you started doing the higher graded work, rather than an arbitrary date in the future, make your voice is heard by speaking to your representative listed below by Friday 11 December.
