The Finance Sector Union is the union for one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in Australia. We organise workers across Australia’s bank, insurance, credit union and superannuation employers. We play a vital role of empowering our members to work together and campaign to secure dignity and respect at work. Our members fight for and deliver improved working entitlements in an evolving industry.

Over the past year the FSU has played a key role in bringing about a Royal Commission into our industry and winning back $22 million in unpaid superannuation payments for low paid workers. We continue to champion for real change and improvements for finance industry workers as well as the broader community.  

The Information and Advice Officer is based in Melbourne and will report to the MRC manager, this is a 12 month parental leave role. The Information and Advice Officer will be responsible for the provision of a wide range of services to FSU members. These services include the provision of accurate industrial information and workplace advice, answering the Union’s 1300 number, responding to emails and faxes and directing calls.

The successful applicant will need to alternate shifts to cover the centre’s hours of operation namely 8.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Selection Criteria:

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the issues facing the finance sector
  • Knowledge of industrial relations issues, industrial awards plus agreements and laws applicable to finance workers


Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice
  • Relevant experience in political, union or not for profit roles
  • Experience in phone based work

Salary range for the Information and Advice Officer position can be provided on request. FSU offers excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions.
