Vacancy Notification: Advocate VIC/TAS

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed trade union Advocate in our Melbourne office.

Working as part of a high performing  Advocacy team you will be responsible for:

  1. Providing members with high quality advice on their workplace rights;
  2. Provide support to members in workplace disputes;
  3. Designing and support FSU Organisers in collective disputes and
  4. High level negotiation problem solving.

FSU is looking to provide an opportunity to an enthusiastic, and energetic union advocate to join a team that is really looking to push the limits in the sector.

This opportunity would be perfect for someone looking to commence their career in the union movement or to change up their already established union career.

Selection Criteria:

Essential experience and qualifications

  • Experience in a trade union or similar not for profit organisation.
  • Undergraduate qualifications in Industrial Relations, Law, Politics or a related field.
  • Experience appearing before the Fair Work Commission and an understanding of issues facing the finance industry would be an advantage.
  • Experience representing members’ grievances directly with employers.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning and the ability to problem solve and come up with creative solutions.
  • Strong time management and personal organisational skills, including the ability to perform work within specified timeframes.
  • The ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment;

Salary
Your starting salary will be as stipulated in the FSU Staff Collective Agreement 2016 and includes an RDO per month. The FSU also offers other excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions of 15%.
