Vacancy Notification - National industrial Officer NSW
General Overview 
The Finance Sector Union is the union for one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in Australia. We organise workers across Australia’s bank, insurance, credit union and superannuation employers. Our members fight for and deliver improved working conditions in an evolving industry. 
 
We have an exciting opportunity in our National Office based in Sydney for a National Industrial Officer.
 
The NIO is part of a small team responsible for development and implementation of the union’s plans. Those plans focus on growing the union into a strong and effective voice for workers in the industry. The NIO will be responsible for high level technical industrial relations advice as well as taking a hands on approach to disputes, campaigns and enterprise bargaining. This position will involve working closely with FSU officers, staff, representatives and members on campaigns to achieve positive change for workers.
 
Selection Criteria:
 
Essential Experience and Qualifications 
  1. Demonstrated commitment to and enthusiasm for trade unionism and/or social justice. 
  2. Tertiary qualification in Law, Industrial Relations or related field.
  3. Demonstrated experience representing employees with workplace grievances’, including successful representation before tribunals eg Fair Work Commission. 
  4. The ability to develop, coordinate and implement industrial campaigns and bargaining within specified employers.
  5. The ability to identify matters around which industrial campaigns can be successfully waged.
  6. The skill to undertake enterprise and other bargaining negotiations.
  7. Writing letters, emails, member bulletins as well as agreements, deeds and other industrial instruments.
  8. Writing of submissions and campaign materials as required.
  9. Proven experience negotiating enterprise agreements with national employers under the Fair Work Act. 
  10. Knowledge of contemporary industrial relations issues and practices.
  11. Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  12. Excellent written communication skills. 
  13. Strong time management and personal organisational skills, including the ability to perform work within specified timelines.
  14. Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
Desirable
  1. Experience working for a trade union or similar not for profit organisation. 
  2. Experience dealing with national employers.
  3. Experience drafting and submitting submissions to government bodies.

Salary
Salary for the National Industrial Officer position can be provided on request. FSU also offers excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions of 15%.
