ANZ SUNCORP DEAL – end of job security for thousands

Our FSU will be making submissions to Treasurer Jim Chalmers and the ACCC, calling on them to reject this deal.

Today’s announcement of a take over of Suncorp by ANZ raises major questions that many of our members are understandably worried about.

Suncorp staff have effectively been given notice that their jobs will start to disappear, once ANZ takes over and moves to progressively eliminate the Suncorp banking brand. By claiming there will be ‘no net job losses for three years’, Shayne Elliott is really announcing the end of job security for thousands of Queensland members once that three years is up.

Having only been informed of the merger moments before the media release went out we will be seeking to make arrangements to engage with members urgently. But, without guarantees around job security and a return to negotiations…

ANZ has been unwilling to negotiate a new collective Enterprise Agreement for the past six years – and Suncorp’s expired Agreement is three years old.

These two companies clearly have a common culture of putting profits before people. They do not respect the collective voice of their workers and they can not be trusted to maintain banking services to the people of Queensland.
