Widespread damage has been reported across the Canberra area as a result of violent and fast moving storms with destructive winds and large hail battering the city. As a result, FSU expects all Employers to support FSU members during this difficult time.
Staying Safe
If you are unable to go to work because your workplace is damaged by hail and water, or your ability to reach work is blocked by the storms, then you should advise your employer and request that you be placed on Special Leave until you are able to return to work.
If your workplace is not safe due to the storms then you should not enter the premises and instead report the workplace hazard immediately.
Community Service Leave
If you are part of a volunteer emergency service organisation and you are on duty with them dealing with the storm or its consequences, then you should advise your employer and ask to be placed on Community Service Leave.
Adjusting Targets
Performance objectives should also be adjusted to take into account the impact on business and customers resulting from the storms so that your targets are fair and equitable.
Assistance from FSU
If you require assistance on any of these matters you should contact your Union immediately.
In addition, if you have been directly impacted by the storms and are suffering financially you can apply to have your Union fees waived at this difficult time.
