It’s been a massive year at CBA…

2023 has been a massive year for union members at CBA.

As the year comes to an end, we wanted to take some time to reflect on what FSU members at CBA have been able to achieve together:

  • Your CBA Enterprise Agreement campaignkicked off early in 2023 with thousands of CBA workers telling us what they wanted to see changed at CBA as part of the new Enterprise Agreement.
  • Your FSU Representatives Sam Halladay, Lisa Neatherway, Adrian Thoen and Damien Bartlett, supported by FSU staff, represented you at fortnightly negotiation meetings with CBA.
  • Through the efforts of FSU members who petitioned and applied collective pressure, the bank improved their pay offer three times resulting in the majority of EA-covered employees receiving a guaranteed wage increase in year one. Read more here.
  • An overwhelming Yes vote meant your new Enterprise Agreement was secured, including better leave entitlements, improved union induction and representation rights, and guaranteed pay rises for both unpackaged and packaged staff for the first time in a long time.
  • CBA dropped the bombshell that all staff must comply with a return to office mandate and thousands of workers rallied against this. We received unprecedented media publicity which left CBA embarrassed and red-faced. Following proceedings at Fair Work, we have assisted members in getting their flexible working arrangements into place and protected those who were at risk of being terminated.
  • We supported members through successive tranches of restructures, redundancies and offshoring that has resulted in massive organisational changes.
  • We also achieved a resolution to CBA’s tea breaks mess with payments to retail staff, and secured a mechanism in the new Enterprise Agreement that ensures you will never miss a tea break again without compensation. Read more here.
  • We ensured your voices are represented and workers’ issues were raised at CBA’s recent Annual General Meeting. We asked the Board for accountability for the many years of wage theft through the illegal use of individual agreements at CBA, and urged the company to invest in secure, local jobs. See what CBA had to say here.
  • Together, we navigated the final stage of CBA’s contract simplification process and the sunsetting of Zombie Contracts through member information sessions and individual support – signaling an end to an era of CBA undermining your collective bargaining power.
  • Your new FSU CBA Enterprise Council has been established – a collective of FSU representatives from CBA who meet monthly to discuss your issues at CBA and areas of focus for our union.

But it doesn’t stop there! Just last week the CBA Grinch reared its ugly head and attempted to steal shift worker loading from some staff. If you have received notice of this, please contact us by emailing [email protected]

We wish you all a safe and happy New Year.
