Over recent weeks our Union and Health and Safety Reps (HSRs) have met with NAB to raise concerns over the immense pressure and strain members are experiencing as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 Omicron wave and ongoing sales/performance targets.
Our Union’s position is clear, sales and performance targets should be suspended through this difficult period to allow employees to focus on their customers and maintaining a healthy work environment.
Disappointingly, while NAB acknowledges these challenging circumstances they have not agreed to suspend targets.
This business as usual approach is unacceptable, the health (both physical and mental) of employees should be paramount during this time and the Union will be reconvening with NAB in the coming week to further raise this issue.
If you have an example of unfair performance pressures please send it through by replying to this email. (All information will remain confidential).
Raising concerns in upcoming Quarterly reviews
When determining performance objectives and outcomes our NAB Enterprise Agreement contains important protections that ensure external factors outside your control are taken into account.
NAB has agreed that Covid-19 related impacts to performance outcomes will be taken into account and adjustments made over the next few weeks as all NAB employees engage in quarterly performance reviews.
The impact Covid-19 has had on the Australian economy and our industry has been substantial this performance period.
In NAB this impact has manifested in a number of ways. These include changes in customer behaviour, the closure of Branches, adjustments to hours of work and location, to name a few.
All of these things should be considered when reviewing any outcomes and objectives you have been required to meet.
When undertaking a performance review with your manager there are a number of questions you should consider:
- Has my ability to reach my performance objectives been compromised by the pandemic or other external factors?
- Has any adjustment been made to ensure that my objectives are realistic and fair?
- Am I concerned this will have an impact on my overall performance rating?
What if I believe my performance has been impacted?
You should raise these matters with your direct Manager who is conducting your performance review. NAB are required to provide you with performance objectives that are set and agreed, can be achieved within ordinary working hours, and are fair and equitable.
You should raise with your Manager any examples where your performance was impacted by external factors outside your control.
More information about setting performance objectives can be found here.
