On Friday, the FSU met directly with NAB CEO Andrew Irvine to put to him members’ concerns regarding work from home changes and the impacts of AI and offshoring.
Work from home
We presented our open letter, which calls on him not to implement his proposed reduction in our work from home rights. The letter was signed by 4000 NAB employees and accompanied by 91 pages of your comments and stories.
That’s a powerful message. Mr Irvine acknowledged it’s a significant issue and that the concerns FSU members have expressed also broadly align with NAB’s internal feedback.
Specifically, we told Mr Irvine:
- Forcing more office days won’t achieve the bank’s objectives.
- The time we save by working from home is real and valuable.
- Taking away flexibility erodes our working conditions, given this is a benefit we already have.
NAB hasn’t made a final call yet. We are meeting with Senior NAB Executives again on Friday 22 August for an update.
Artificial intelligence
We also raised concerns about how AI and the use of offshore labour is reshaping the way we work at NAB. We emphasised that FSU members must be at the centre of this change to ensure NAB continues to invest in its people and our skills.
Mr Irvine acknowledged both the speed and the transformative potential of AI, as well as the importance of job security and supporting employees through these changes.
We will continue to speak directly with him on this issue.
Our voice matters
Workers’ voices must be front and centre of any decisions NAB makes regarding working from home and AI.
