Now it’s time for action: Let’s keep breaking taboos!

We were thrilled to see so many of you yesterday for the launch of our Breaking taboos campaign.

We had some very frank conversations about the challenges of managing the symptoms of menopause and menstruation in the workplace, and heard some truly inspiring stories of bravery and success from our panel.

In case you couldn’t make it, you can watch a recording of the event below or click here

As you know, yesterday also marked Finance Industry Equal Pay Day – a reminder of the 78 additional days women have to work each year just to earn the same as men.

It’s clear that workers who experience the symptoms of menopause and menstruation are often held back in their careers, which further fuels the ongoing gender pay gap and inequities in our workplaces.

So what can we do?

Our campaign name says it all – now it’s time for us to take these conversations back into our workplaces and start breaking those taboos!

The more we speak up about menopause and menstruation, the more we normalise these experiences and pave the way for better discussions that will enable those who suffer these symptoms to get the support they need in the workplace.

Here are a few things to help you get started:

Inquiry recommendations show more support is needed

We’re also pleased to welcome the report by the Inquiry into Issues relating to Menopause and Perimenopause, which the FSU and our members provided evidence to. Read more about this here

This report is a vindication of the experiences shared by so many of you as to the profound impact menopause can have on workers, and the recommendations are a first step toward eliminating the stigma and taboo surrounding it.

FSU National Secretary Julia Angrisano spoke out about the need for better support for workers on ABC and Channel 10
