There was a time when every town, no matter how small, could count on two things: a pub and a bank. That's no longer the case. For years, banks have closed branch after branch, particularly across regional Australia. The big four banks alone have shut more than 1,400 branches.
These closures have cost thousands of jobs and left local communities without vital services, all while banks continue to record billions of dollars in profit.
The FSU is calling on the Federal Government to take real action by extending the moratorium on bank branch closures to 2030 as a minimum for all banks, not just the big four, and extending it to metro branches, not just regional ones. This would guarantee vital banking services for communities and give workers time to retrain and be redeployed into new roles.

If AMP isn’t going to come to the table to negotiate our conditions with us, then we’ll need to force them. And we will do that by securing a majority support determination (MSD). That sounds complicated, but all it means is that a majority of people working at AMP (or in a particular business area of AMP) vote to say they want to bargain – then AMP is legally obligated to negotiate. Of course, there are some legal hoops we need to jump through, but right now the most important thing you can do is click here to join us. Now is the time to get as many of our colleagues involved and engaged in our campaign as possible. |
