‘A great love’ – Four decades of a varied and rewarding banking career

Not only does Myrna Ellery know a lot about banking, she has a deep love for the profession in which she has worked in excess of 40 years.

It’s a career that has seen Myrna work in a variety of roles and locations – and now that she’s closer to retirement, she’s taken the unusual step of purchasing a bank in New South Wales’s Central West, which she now calls home.

The building was decommissioned in the 80s, and Myrna and her husband have spent the last 18 months restoring it to its original glory… with some additional ‘homely’ details, of course.

“It had been bought by various owners but was fairly unloved and had lots of original features, including the walk-in vault,” Myrna explained.

“The building was built to be strong because of the security. It’s a great building and I’m about to open it as an AirBnB.

“In the old days, the bank manager’s residence was always attached to the bank. Particularly in rural centers, the bank manager mostly lived onsite.”
