The Finance Sector Union (FSU) says ANZ workers have had enough of living in fear and uncertainty and are demanding the bank be held to account after months of chaos, secrecy and disrespect for its workforce.
The move comes as CEO Nuno Matos prepares to address investors on Monday, a moment the union says must mark a turning point in how ANZ treats its people.
The FSU says 3,500 jobs are on the line, with ANZ continuing to pursue an aggressive cost-cutting agenda – without genuine consultation or care for the people who have built and sustained the bank.
Workers and their union are now calling for ANZ to show accountability by committing to no forced job cuts, engaging in genuine consultation before roles are changed and being transparent about the bank’s use of AI and offshoring.
It must also guarantee that no worker will lose their job or pay because of technology or structural change and make sure all staff are treated fairly and given secure work, the union says.
The FSU says ANZ workers across the country are organising and preparing to ramp up their campaign if the bank fails to act.
Finance Sector Union National President Wendy Streets said:
“ANZ workers have been blindsided again and again, finding out via the media that their jobs are on the line, receiving emails telling them to return laptops before being told their roles were at risk.
“We’ve taken this fight to the Fair Work Commission because workers at ANZ deserve clarity and honesty.
“ANZ’s so-called transformation has been defined by confusion, fear and secrecy and that needs to end now.
“If Mr Matos wants to talk to investors about growth and innovation, he should start with accountability and fairness.
“Workers are organised, united and determined. They’ve had enough of the chaos and unhinged behavious from ANZ. They want accountability, decency and a fair deal for all workers at the bank.”
