In the lead up to the end of the year, we wanted to remind you about your entitlements regarding taking annual leave over the Christmas and New Year period.
Any requirement by your employer for you to take annual leave must be reasonable and in accordance with either the Banking, Finance and Insurance Award or enterprise agreement, if you’re covered by one.
How much notice your employer is required to give you will also depend on the BFI Award or the enterprise agreement that you’re covered by.
Each enterprise agreement is different, and different rules may apply to your particular workplace. If in doubt, you can log in and check your enterprise agreement on our website.
Generally speaking, annual leave should be taken at a time that is mutually agreed between you and your employer, and your manager should first talk to you before requiring you to take any annual leave.
If you feel like you’re being unreasonably forced to take annual leave, or if you simply require support or assistance from our union, contact our Member Rights Centre on 1300 366 378 – Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.
