We are thrilled to congratulate Justine Sherwood, FSU recipient of the Queensland Unions Emma Miller Award! This Award is presented each year to women who have made an outstanding contribution to their union at the grass roots level.
Justine has been an active delegate for many years at NAB and has a particular passion for workplace health and safety. She has been an FSU representative on the NAB health and safety committee for a number of years and continually raises issues of great concern to members.
Justine said she felt proud and humbled to receive the award in the company of so many deserving women.
“Each recipient’s achievements were varied but clearly showed their passion for improvements within their sectors, just like me. I found this to be very inspiring,” Justine said.
“Having suffered with work-related mental health issues in my 30+ years with NAB, health and safety is a topic I am very passionate about.
“I recall how vulnerable I felt at that time, and I love that my roles as a Health and Safety Representative and Union Delegate gives me opportunities to be the voice of people who might have trouble being heard.”
Recently, Justine also played a vital role during negotiations for NAB’s new Enterprise Agreement, working with colleagues over 18 months (including leading a successful ‘No’ vote) to achieve an industry-leading agreement.
Congratulations on your well-deserved Emma Miller Award, Justine.
