Hostplus Agreement voted up – next steps
You will have heard by now that the proposed Hostplus Enterprise Agreement (EA)…
I’d like to share an important update about an administrative change that will help keep our union modern, efficient, and focused on what matters most to you and your working life.
In the coming days, I will be making an application to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (‘QIRC’) to deregister the Finance Sector Union of Australia, Queensland Branch, Industrial Union of Employees ('FSUQIUE').
For nearly 20 years, this state registration has existed in name only. It has not held separate funds, employed staff, or operated independently from the national Finance Sector Union of Australia. The Queensland registration simply mirrored the national union structures, meaning your representation has always come from a single, strong and united organisation.
Because all FSU members work for National System employers, the state registration doesn’t provide any additional rights or protections. Instead, it has required us to manage duplicate reporting and compliance. This means expending resources that don’t offer practical benefits to members.
This step follows the adoption of our new National Rules, which modernised how the FSU operates by removing the need for state-specific officials and structures.
Deregistering the state entity completes that process, aligning our structure with the way we already function: as one cohesive national union focused on improving members’ lives across Australia.
All the important things remain:
This is a positive, forward-looking decision. It’s about simplicity and ensuring that every dollar and hour of our union's effort is directed where it makes the most difference. By removing unnecessary layers, we ensure our resources are used strictly in your best interests.
We will keep you informed and provide updates as we receive further information from the QIRC regarding this application.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our union.
