Does your employer expect you to log on five minutes early each day so you can hit the ground running when your official hours kick in?
That’s exactly what was happening for staff at IAG’s Direct Claims department – but now, thanks to some hard-working FSU members, management has clarified that employees are not expected to log on before their rostered start time.
Instead, employees are entitled to use the first few minutes of their shift to become customer-ready, ensuring no one works unpaid time.
It’s a common-sense clarification, one that we hope will provide consistency across the entire company.
No one should work for free
Unfortunately, we know that many FSU members across our sector regularly start work before they’re officially on the clock. What may only be five to 10 minutes each day quickly adds up to hours of unpaid time each year.
It should not be the case, and no employer has a right to direct you to work outside your rostered hours.
If you are asked to start before you start, contact the FSU today on 1300 366 378 or [email protected] and we can provide you with assistance.
