Regional and Remote Workers Committee

The FSU Regional and Remote Workers Committee was established to advocate for the interests of finance workers across regional Australia. As bank branches close at an alarming rate and severe understaffing becomes the norm, regional bank employees face unprecedented challenges, often serving as the sole cash providers for vast areas, which significantly increases their risk.

Our committee is proactive in lobbying against branch closures, engaging with the recent Senate Inquiry into Bank Closures in Regional Australia, and urging the government to implement protective measures for these essential services. We actively highlight the issue of chronic understaffing caused by banks failing to fill vacancies in regional locations.

We are committed to fiercely defend and support our regional members through these difficult times.

If you would like to join the committee, please send an email to [email protected] and we'll get in touch.

Bec Turner
ANZ - Gladstone

I’ve worked at a regional ANZ branch in Gladstone for 11 years. With branches closing across my region, I am very worried about my branch being the next one to close its doors.

I’m proud of my union’s leadership and advocacy during the recent Senate Inquiry into regional branch closures. I am very glad that the report acknowledges the essential service we provide to our community and will protect the future of regional banking.

Save our local bank branches

For years, banks have continued to ruthlessly close branch after branch in droves, particularly in regional Australia. The big four banks alone have closed over 1400 branches.

How we can help ?

I’m in! What’s the plan?

If AMP isn’t going to come to the table to negotiate our conditions with us, then we’ll need to force them.

And we will do that by securing a majority support determination (MSD). That sounds complicated, but all it means is that a majority of people working at AMP (or in a particular business area of AMP) vote to say they want to bargain – then AMP is legally obligated to negotiate. Of course, there are some legal hoops we need to jump through, but right now the most important thing you can do is click here to join us.

Now is the time to get as many of our colleagues involved and engaged in our campaign as possible.
