This month, crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie and David Pocock successfully passed four separate Bills in the Senate that replicate four aspects of the Closing Loopholes Bill, relating to discrimination, small business redundancies, asbestos, and work health and safety.
While this is a step in the right direction, it still isn’t enough in the face of massive price gouging and profiteering by big businesses.
If passed in full, the Bill will help stop wage theft, close labour hire loopholes, regulate the gig economy, increase the minimum wage, and improve rights for casual workers.
As we know, big businesses are doing everything they can to squash the bill with ridiculous claims and misinformation. Due to this, the Bill will now face a three-month delay, which will unfortunately cost Australian workers hundreds of millions of dollars in lost wages.
