We know many members are experiencing distress, concern and worry about the ongoing conflict taking place in Palestine and Israel.
Latest reports show the situation in Gaza is catastrophic and we are all deeply alarmed by the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis that is occurring. We extend our solidarity to all Palestinian and Israeli victims of the violence.
Members can read the FSU’s statement on the conflict here.
There is always a feeling of helplessness in such situations, but there are a few actions we can take.
Calling for a ceasefire is the most critical action we can take right now. You can add your voice to call on the Australian government to push for a de-escalation of the Gaza crisis – contact your local federal member or senator today and ask them to advocate for a ceasefire.
We can also show our solidary and support for those suffering by giving to aid agencies working in Gaza.
APHEDA has set up an emergency appeal for its partner MA’AN Development Center, who is working with local organisations to provide access to food, water, medical supplies, and other support for displaced people. You can support them here.
Alongside the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), we call for all sides and the international community to act for peace.
