Tapping into super for housing

Nicole McPherson – National Assistant Secretary,
Finance Sector Union

Nicole will delve into the controversial debate of tapping into our super for a housing deposit. Housing has become totally unaffordable for a lot of average Aussies, but is it really a good idea to use our super for housing? Our speakers all have something to say about this!

About Nicole: After starting her career as a lawyer, Nicole joined the FSU and worked as an Industrial Advocate and National Industrial Officer. She led the FSU’s campaign to secure paid vaccination leave for more than 220,000 finance workers, and with members, established the FSU Young workers committee. Nicole currently leads the FSU’s Organising and Industrial teams in fighting for progressive rights for all finance workers.

Super and our economy

Casey Thompson – Workers’ Capital Manager,
Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU)

Why should we care about our super now? Casey will unpack our rights as workers when it comes to our super (something we’ve fought hard for) and discuss the significance of super on our economy. Hint: It’s not just about retirement.

ABout Casey: Casey Thompson is the Workers’ Capital Manager at the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). The ACTU is the only peak body representing trade unions across Australia. Casey is a member-representative trustee director on industry super fund, FIRST Super, and a director on the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI).
