We’ve secured a significant win at Teachers Mutual Bank, which will ensure your privacy is protected.
TMB management recently instructed employees to install tracking devices in all company cars.
Many of us use our work cars for business and personal purposes. Because the tracking devices could not be turned off, this would have meant TMB tracking us at all times.
Tracking our movements, particularly outside work hours, is a gross intrusion of our privacy, and breaches NSW workplace surveillance laws.
Our union told TMB that these tracking devices were not legal and that the rollout must be stopped.
We’re pleased to confirm that TMB has now stopped the rollout of these tracking devices. If you have already installed a tracking device, you can now disconnect it.
Management has also committed to work with FSU members moving forward. We will meet with management shortly to determine next steps.
This is why consultation matters. Under our Enterprise Agreement, TMB management is required to consult with employees on proposed changes that affect us. Genuine consultation could have avoided this.

Remember: our colleagues had already installed these devices and it was only the strong intervention of our union that stopped this.
