Join a special guest at our AI campaign meeting
At our last AI campaign meeting, members shared how AI is showing up…
AI isn’t part of a hypothetical future for finance workers. We’re dealing with the impact of AI right now – and last week we took your stories to Canberra so politicians and decision-makers understand this reality.
Ministers and senators were given a copy of our new AI report, No longer a hypothetical: Stories from finance workers on the impact of AI today.
The report, which collates in-depth interviews with FSU members across the finance sector, shows that finance workers aren’t anti-AI. In fact, we can see its potential benefits. But the way new technologies are being rolled out is driving up workloads, stress and burnout.
Members shared experiences of rushed rollouts with little or no training, mandatory AI tools that don’t work properly or add to workloads, risks to customer data, and growing fears about job security.
Our report calls for stronger protections for workers, including AI implementation agreements and a dedicated AI regulator.
AI is already causing harm to working people, and every member interviewed agreed that governments need to take a more active role in regulating AI in the workplace.
But it’s not enough for finance workers to think this – politicians need to hear it directly from workers. A big shout out to FSU members Caroline Troup and Mackenzi De Piazza for taking the time and effort to travel with us to Canberra to speak directly with politicians.

FSU members Caroline Troup and Mackenzi De Piazza, along with Nicole McPherson, FSU Assistant National Secretary, met with Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation; Amanda Rishworth, Minister for Workplace Relations; Patrick Gorman, Assistant Minister for Workplace Relations; Dr Andrew Leigh MP; Senator Varun Ghosh; Senator Deborah O’Neill; and Lisa Chesters MP.
Thank you to every member who shared their experience. Your stories are powerful and it’s important that politicians hear them.
Remember, laws made in Canberra are always better when they are informed by lived experience. This is what being part of our union is all about!
