It’s going to be a challenging few days for people living in South East Queensland and northern New South Wales, with Cyclone Alfred expected to make landfall late Thursday or Friday.
You may be feeling anxious, but we must treat this cyclone like any other natural disaster event – that includes following the latest advice from authorities, keeping informed through official channels like local governments or the Bureau of Meteorology, and doing everything we can to stay safe.
Your health and safety must be the priority. If you cannot get to work or it is unsafe for you to do so, talk to your supervisor about alternate arrangements, including working from home or taking leave.
Some enterprise agreements negotiated by the FSU contain paid natural disaster leave clauses, which allow employees to apply for special leave in the event of natural disasters, such as cyclones.
Not all agreements contain this clause –check your enterprise agreement on our website to see if you have access to it.
We also encourage you to check any natural disaster policies that may exist in your workplace.
