A true advocate for finance workers – Emma Kingdon elected as new ACTU President

A huge congratulations to Emma Kingdon, who has been elected as the new President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions! Emma previously worked as a Lead Organiser at the FSU, and her commitment, compassion, campaigning and negotiation skills saved jobs and secured significant improvements to pay and working conditions for our members.

Emma worked with finance workers to build collective strength and hope to take on some of Australia’s largest banks. She pressed for fairer treatment of workers being made redundant at NAB, which saved jobs and livelihoods, and led a successful campaign against Westpac's plans to offshore local jobs from a regional call centre.

The experience she acquired at the FSU and the broader union movement will undoubtedly benefit the ACTU as it transitions from the successful stewardship of Sally McManus and Michele O’Neil to a new era of leadership.
