We’re ready to fight NAB’s devastating job cuts – FSU info and support
The FSU is appalled by and ready to fight today's announcement by CEO…
This is an incredibly distressing and uncertain time for so many NAB employees. Our union and the whole union community stands firmly behind FSU members and all NAB workers. Together, we are doing everything possible to hold NAB management accountable for these devastating job cuts.
We have heard from countless members about the anxiety, confusion and chaos unfolding across NAB. These decisions by the Executive can only be described as callous, gutless, and devoid of empathy. Workers deserve far better than to be left worrying about their jobs, their families and their futures.
Our union is taking action on multiple fronts, and we need your support to ensure NAB listens to its employees.
We are calling on NAB CEO Andrew Irvine to immediately pause the job cuts, commit to no forced exits before the end of 2026, and work with the FSU to ensure employees have genuine choice about their futures.
The FSU has formally lodged a dispute with NAB over its handling of these job cuts.
We are demanding transparency, genuine consultation and respect for employees' rights. NAB cannot be allowed to rush through decisions affecting thousands of livelihoods without providing clear information and properly consulting those impacted.
We have given NAB until Monday 26 October to provide the information and assurances we have requested. If NAB fails to respond adequately, we will escalate the dispute to the Fair Work Commission.
Next week, we will be holding further sessions for NAB employees to share the latest developments, hear your concerns and discuss how we can collectively respond. These sessions are an important opportunity to have your say and help shape our union's next steps.
NAB has agreed that employees can attend these sessions during paid time.
We are deeply concerned about the toll these announcements and NAB's handling of the process are taking on employees. NAB has a legal duty to protect the health and safety of its workers, including managing psychosocial risks associated with job insecurity and poorly managed organisational change.
Announcing 2500 job cuts while failing to provide employees with basic information has created unnecessary anxiety and uncertainty.
If the announcement or the way these changes are being managed is affecting your mental health or wellbeing, we encourage you to report the impact through NAB's workplace health and safety incident reporting process.
Please also let the FSU know by emailing [email protected] so we can support you and, where appropriate, raise these concerns with the relevant work health and safety regulators.
Our union is also pursuing every available political avenue to hold NAB accountable.
We have written to the Federal Treasurer seeking an urgent meeting about NAB's actions and its responsibilities to employees and the Australian community.
Today, our union met with Senator Tony Sheldon to discuss the devastating impact of these cuts. Yesterday, FSU National Assistant Secretary Nicole McPherson also gave evidence to the Federal Government's Joint Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence, raising concerns about the lack of transparency around AI's role in NAB's decision.
We know many of you are feeling exhausted, frustrated and uncertain about what comes next. But we want to assure you that our union will not stand by while NAB treats its employees as disposable.
We are fighting for transparency, genuine choice and respect for every NAB employee.
You can help strengthen that fight by signing our open letter, attending an FSU session and encouraging your colleagues to get involved.
Together, we can demand the treatment and respect that every NAB worker deserves.
