As you’ve already heard, BOQ has disrespectfully sprung 400 job cuts on workers affecting all areas of the bank.
Roles affected include (approximate numbers):
- Retail: 90 roles impacted
- Tech: 79 roles impacted
- Operations: 52 roles impacted
- Business bank: 34 roles impacted
- Risk: 42 roles impacted
- Group Finance: 10 roles impacted
- People and Culture: 10 roles impacted.
These job losses are on top of the 250 roles already cut by BOQ in the past 12 months, bringing the total number of jobs cut to 650.
To add salt to the wound, BOQ additionally announced it would convert all 114 of its owner-managed branch networks to corporate branches to “simplify its retail distribution channels”, with the conversion expected to be completed by March 2025.
This undoubtedly makes it easier for BOQ to close branches at the drop of a hat and puts all our bank branches at great risk.

Insultingly, BOQ has only proposed a two-week consultation period – this is not sufficient for such significant changes which will have a drastic impact on workers.
We will also be demanding that BOQ commit not to close any bank branches.
