Bankwest branch closures – Next steps and urgent FSU meeting

Since Bankwest’s shocking announcement, we’ve heard from many of you about the devastating impact the mass branch closures will have on staff and customers alike.

We’ve already seen customers outside some branches struggling to access vital services. Many of you have told us you don’t want to be redeployed to a call centre or back office role, or to a CBA branch.

We hear you. Bankwest has made this extreme decision without any consultation.

Urgent FSU meeting on Wednesday

Please join us at an urgent meeting on Wednesday 13 March, 6pm (WA time) to discuss our next steps and so we can hear directly from you.

The FSU has already spoken with Senator Matthew Canavan, Chair of Rural and Regional Affairs, to inform him of the situation. We’ll also be meeting with Minister for Financial Services Stephen Jones and Senators involved in the Senate Inquiry into bank closures in Canberra the week after next.

Members know the FSU has presented copious amounts of evidence to the inquiry and the hearings have cemented what we already know, that banks are abandoning their customers in a bid for profit and without care for communities. We will be calling on Minister Stephen Jones to step in, hold Bankwest (and CBA) to account and deliver on the opportunities from the Senate Inquiry.

Please continue to reach out to us through our Member Rights Centre on 1300 366 378 or [email protected] if you require support or advice.
