Bankwest: We’re taking CBA to the FWC – Branch closures and working from home

We have taken significant action on behalf of members by lodging a formal dispute at the Fair Work Commission (FWC) against CBA. This dispute challenges the bank’s position on requiring employees impacted by Bankwest branch network closures to work from home.

Approximately 350 Bankwest colleagues in Western Australia have been affected by CBA’s decision to close branches, leading to role redundancies.

While alternative positions within the Customer Engagement Centre were offered to most, those working in regional branches have been redeployed to work from their home – a condition we believe should be a personal choice, not a direction.

We do not agree that working from home meets the definition of ‘comparable role’ under our Enterprise Agreement – we believe that affected members should have access to the benefits of a trial period and the right to consider retrenchment if it is unsatisfactory.

Despite our efforts to resolve this matter constructively, CBA’s position remains unchanged, prompting us to proceed with FWC conciliation. This initial step will seek to resolve the issue through mutual agreement.
