You would have heard the news by now that Bankwest has announced the closure of more branches this year, as well as statements from CBA CEO Matt Comyn and others that Bankwest is to become ‘almost solely digital’.
What does this mean for workers, customers and communities who rely on their Bankwest branch?
FSU members met last week to discuss what the future holds for Bankwest branches across WA.
The shift to digital is by design
We’ve heard that branch customers are continuing to be pushed to online banking, that customers are continuing to be redirected to the ATM and even being told to go to their local Australia Post office to undertake their transactions.
We also heard that targets have been introduced to limit the number of customers coming into a branch and where someone is provided face-to-face, over-the-counter service workers are being asked to please explain!
You only need to look at the recent media attention to understand the Western Australians and Bankwest customers are not happy about what is happening to their bank.
The time to act is now.
Support our campaign to protect Bankwest branches
We’ve already been in the media, written to bank executives and politicians, and even the Premier of Western Australia. But this won’t be enough by itself and our campaign needs your help.
We’re asking ALL Bankwest workers to sign our petition.
We need to capture the support of the public and hear their stories, so it is essential that you share this petition within your local communities. We also have a print version of the petition and a flyer for you to share with local businesses, community and sporting groups and on community noticeboards.
If you are unable to print these items, please reply to this email so that we can arrange for printed copies to be sent to you and your colleagues.
How else can I get involved?
If you are keen to get involved in any way, or are interested in becoming a contact at your worksite or an FSU Rep, please let us know by replying to this email.
